In 2018, Ula approached me to write the copy for the website of her new PR agency, Ula McCarthy PR. Having cut her teeth working for some of London’s most prestigious hospitality PR firms, Ula had taken the brave decision to go it alone. She wanted her new site to emphasise the advantages of restaurants and bars working with a small, boutique agency. But the copy also needed to exude Ula’s efficiency and professionalism, too.
It helped me greatly that Ula was an absolute pleasure to work with, clear in her vision but always willing to listen to other angles.
Luckily, Ula was delighted with my work on the website, and has since involved me on a range of further projects. I have written web copy for restaurants, and have also put together several press releases on her behalf. These have included new ventures by some of London’s most coveted chefs, such as Neil Rankin’s highly successful Simplicity Burger launch.
My conversational style of writing works particularly well with distilling the essence of a bar or restaurant into concise, quotable copy. For restaurants to succeed in such a crowded marketplace, it is vital that their websites provide more than menus and opening times. They need a personality, and an identifiable voice. I absolutely love helping businesses grow from an idea into an identifiable brand, or writing press releases which gain that all-important early media traction.
