The background
I was commissioned in December 2019 to write a piece on startup funding for the Financial Times-affiliated Sifted website. Sifted’s tone of voice is very specific. Therefore the piece needed to be accessible enough for inexperienced startup owners to learn about the funding options available to them. But I also needed to write with sufficient detail that the piece would also interest those already more established.
